CHAPTER FOURTEEN

It felt so good to be home. Jason was happy that Ryland behaved so well on the plane. He didn’t get upset until they exited the plane and walking to the baggage claim. Jason stopped and gave him his sippy cup then went to the restroom and changed his diaper. Now, Ryland was walking around his apartment checking every room out and babbling. Jason followed behind him but kept a distance. He didn’t want to scare Ryland but wanted to make sure he was ok while exploring. The spare bedroom, thanks to Tate and Jase, was already set up for Ryland. He laughed when Ryland squealed and ran for his toy box. He seemed happy for the moment. Jason just hoped he remained that way from now on. Jase was going to bring some food by tonight for them but Jason knew he just wanted to meet Ryland. Jason wanted everybody to meet him, eventually.

Jason made sure his and Ryland’s suitcases were cleaned out and dirty laundry on to wash before he went to spend some time with Ryland before Jase got there. Jason made Jase promise to bring only himself and Tripp. He wasn’t ready for anyone else yet. Sam and Nana had promised him that they would keep quiet too. He didn’t know how long he sat on the floor and played with Ryland. The knock on his door had him looking at his watch. Ryland stood up and started his slow run toward the door. Jason scooped him up before he got there and looked through the peephole. Jase was standing there with a huge smile on his face and bouncing up and down like Tigger. He made sure he had a good hold on Ryland before he opened the door. As soon as he opened it, Jase went nuts.

“Oh, my freaking God, Jason! Gimme, gimme! He is such a cutie! He has your hair color, but those eyes! That color of green! He’s going to be fighting the girls off when he gets older, or men, whichever he chooses! Now, hand me that baby!”

He didn’t have to pass Ryland to Jase. Ryland was already reaching for him and giggling. Tripp came in behind Jase and shut the door. They both stood there and watch Jase go all goo-goo eyed. Tripp leaned over and spoke softly to him while smiling.

“I’m so happy for you Jason, but just as sad. I’m sorry to hear about your sister and her wife. I’m happy that they left Ryland to you. You two look like the perfect match. Matt also wanted me to pass a message to you. He said that he passed the adoption stuff over to a very close lawyer friend that handles that and you should hear something soon. Matt even said that he wrote a letter to go with the paperwork on your behalf.”

“Thank you, Tripp. I miss my sister more than anything and I’m glad I have Ryland. Truthfully, I just want things to slow down now.
